David is four years old and lives in a hillside village on Tanna Island. David has a very complicated cleft palate, tongue tie and missing baby teeth in his lower jaw. David’s mamma is very excited that he has been organised to be seen by Interplast in April this year. The size of his palate cleft is extreme and his quality of life is hoped to be dramatically improved. Speech, eating and drinking is almost impossible for David and soon he will have some relief. David is one plane ride from Port Vila. Flights are often not afforded by rural Ni-Vanuatu. Fares will cost him and his Mamma NZD800.
DAVID AND HIS MAMMAS RETURN AIRFARES ARE NOW FUNDED!!
April 2018 update… David and his tiny brother and Mamma flew to Port Vila and was assessed by Interplast and Dr Samuel. David had surgery to fix his palate. He will be able to eat and drink well and will have another assessment and further surgery when he is older. Thanks to Rotarians Murray and Stephanie from Auckland New Zealand for supporting David and his Mamma. His Mamma is one of the founding members of the newly formed cleft support group “Neja tok blong ol pikinini” and has had such an wonderful opportunity to be able to spend time with other Mammas who have children just like hers….. David will return to his Island soon….
