Cleo’s family have just celebrated his first birthday – he was born with a bilateral cleft lip and a cleft palate. It was extremely hard for Cleo to feed. Early steps were taken to fly Cleo to Port Vila in February 2017 to ensure his survival. This trip was sponsored by New Zealanders who understood this desperate cry for help from across the Pacific waters. Cleo had his lip mended in April 2017 organised through Interplast, by surgeon Ian Holten and his team visiting and mentoring at Port Vila Central Hospital. Cleo will have his palate mended in April this year. It will cost Cleo and his Mamma NZD350 to fly to and from Ambae Island for this free operation which will allow him to eat, speak and drink like other children.
CLEO AND HIS MOTHER’S AIRFARES TO AND FROM AMBAE HAVE NOW BEEN FUNDED !!!
Update April 2018 – Cleo was able to be assessed by the Interplast Team and is family are looking forward to him having further assessment and possible surgery in 2018. His Mamma was able to be in touch for the first time with other cleft babies and is now part of the newly formed support group “Neja tok blong ol pikinini” …..
